Our Monthly Conversation Focus

Building Global Communities

This month we will discuss strategies Fellows use to help our world feel more like one large community. Specifically, Fellows are connecting students with other students around the world. As travelers and explorers, this value is near and dear to Fund for Teachers Fellows, but how can we embody this in our instruction and inspire our students to think globally? All February we will work with Fellows to share video, webinars, downloadable classroom resources, articles, and more on our social channels. Follow us there for insights and conversation in real time or watch here for ongoing updates.

Our Monthly Host

2017 FFT Fellow, Saul Fussiner

Saul Fussiner is a 2017 Fund for Teachers Fellow. He spent his fellowship travelling across Ireland and Northern Ireland to gather relevant materials, awareness and knowledge to help students contextualize the Irish situation (both before and after partition) and demonstrate how people behave in groups. His travels included stops in Derry, Belfast and Dublin, and that first-hand experience has translated into new approaches in his teaching and efforts to promote global community in the classroom.

Saul currently works as Director of Creative Writing at ACES Educational Center for the Arts, where he guides a multigenre program teaching diverse, contemporary voices to students. He leads a cohort of educators who are all professional writers and hosts a Visiting Writers series that has included Sharon Olds, JoAnn Beard, Marilyn Nelson and Spalding Gray.

Saul earned a BA in History at Connecticut College, received his MFA in Dramatic Writing at NYU and studied Educational Leadership and Administration at University of Connecticut. In addition to his work in education, Saul has worked as a playwright, screenwriter, musician, storyteller, and host of live arts events, fueling his work and instruction with a variety of inspiration and experiences.
